CUBS WIN – Get used to it (photo)

Delusional Cubs Fan 2010 Predictions

So who is everyone picking to win the NL Central in 2010?  The St Louis Cardinals.  The F’n Cardinals!

No way.  Last year everyone picked the Cubs to win the division and they were all wrong. This year it’s going to be the same thing with the Cards. No way will they repeat.

We’ll see how the Cardinals do when one of their big four (Pujols, Holliday, Carpenter, Wainwright) go on the DL. They won the division in 2009 when all four of those guys had career years in the same year and stayed healthy.  What are the odds of that happening again?  Chris Carpenter’s arm is going to fall off after pitching 200 innings for the first time since 2006.  The Cards are good but they won’t run away with it like people think.

Don’t forget, the Cardinals didn’t resign Mark DeRosa.  We all know the impact losing DeRosa can have on a team.

And no, it won’t be the Brewers either.  They couldn’t win the division when the had Sabathia and Sheets and they won’t win it with Gallardo and Wolf.

And the Cincinnati Reds?  Every year people want to think the Reds will turn it around.  I’ve got two words for ya: Dusty Baker.  It’s the same thing I say every year and I’m always right.

Word on the street is that Pittsburgh is headed in the right direction and may turn it around but probably not for 6-15 years still.

No my friends, the winners of the National League Central will be the Chicago Cubs.

This is the big comeback year.  The Cubs are not the favorites anymore and they’ve come to camp hungry, in shape and with a lot to prove.  This is a team full of players with pride and they’re going to be focused and ready to win.

The NL Comeback Player of the Year will definitely be from the Chicago Cubs and it could be Alfonso Soriano, Geovany Soto, Carlos Zambrano or maybe even Carlos Silva.  They’re all going to have good years.

Notice I don’t say great because the won’t all have great years but noone is going to play like the turdshiners they were last year.  Silva might even win 12 games.  Soriano will hit 30 home runs. Geovany Soto will have 70+ RBI.  Big Z is going to have stretches of dominance like we used to see.

Ted Lilly will return from the DL on schedule and be his normal rock solid Chuck Norris-like self.  Lilly will round out the starting staff of guys who can all post double digit wins easy.  The Chicago Cubs have the best starters in the NL Central.  They may not have the same 1-2 punch as the Cardinals do but the Cubs are much better 1-5.  The Cubs starting pitching was not the problem in 2009, they racked up quality starts consistently, the problem was the offense.

The offense is going to bounce back this year.  Almost all the starting position players are returning and this is still pretty much the same group that led the NL in runs in 2008. This year they will be healthy again as well as motivated and focused.  They also have the Amazing Rudy Jaramillo as the new Cubs hitting coach and you will see the difference.

The Cubs are ready for 2010.  They have depth and a mixture of experience and youth.  They have a new owner in place who has already said he’s willing to pick up a contract on a trade deadline deal should someone become available.  The NL Central teams are well matched and noone will run away with the division.  The Chicago Cubs will win 92 games and that will be just enough to win the NL Central.  After that the Cubs will knock off the wild card Rockies in the division series and then upset the Philadelphia Phillies in the NLCS.  After that it’s a World Series win against the Yankess.

This Is The Year!
